The Olympia Communicators Group will kick off our fall season of meetings on Wednesday, September 6, Noon-1:00, at Thurston Community Media, 440 Yauger Way, Suite C in West Olympia.
Join us to learn how you can use TCMedia’s training, equipment, and facilities to enhance your organization or agency’s communications strategy. Andrea Capere, TCM Director of Community Relations, and Deb Vinsel, Thurston Community Media CEO, will make the presentation.
Thurston Community Media provides communication resources that build stronger communities. Thurston Community Media (TCMedia), a is membership organization providing training, production, and distribution of digital media in Thurston County. They are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit under contract to Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, and Thurston County. Their programming is seen by nearly 70,000 households on Comcast cable system channels 3, 22, 26, and 77 in Thurston County, online, and on Roku.
According to Andrea, here are some things they are working on:
We are currently in the midst of a nonprofit organizational member drive with our board. Part of our offerings for organizational members include PSA Day (Sept 25-26), in which members get an invitation to have a professionally produced PSA for their organization. Even if a nonprofit does not take advantage of the other member benefits (access to training, equipment/facilities use, professional production and consultancy), the cost of an annual organizational membership makes it a huge bargain when you factor in the PSA.
We still offer class-by-request and one-on-one training in a variety of media production techniques and technologies available to organizational members.
As for business, we have the Business Circle. This is an opportunity for local businesses to reach our audiences, in a similar way to how underwriting at KBTC or KNKX works. Each level is customizable for each business’ specific marketing needs. Offerings of this type range from a “Thank You” video on our channels, logo on our website, etc.
Mission Nonprofit is where we are really partnering with ThurstonTalk. The form of the show has changed somewhat, in that we are producing a package, an excerpt, and a full episode for air on the channel, on YouTube, and on ThurstonTalk (and they produce a text article about the nonprofit). We produce this show as part of our studio production class and are ramping up to produce two shows per month.
As far as new things with local K-12 and post-secondary schools, we are always considering new interns. We have a few ideas/potential partnerships in the works, but nothing firm that we can report on yet. Our successful Young Producers Network summer camps that will be wrapping up soon.”
